Scientists have described the recent record-setting heat wave that recently swept across the Pacific Northwest as a once in a thousand years event. Temperatures soaring to record highs in areas that have typically mild summer weather. But it’s not just the Pacific Northwest that’s getting the heat. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that June was the hottest month on record in the United States. Eight states, including Utah, broke the previous heat records for June.
These rising temperatures highlight a growing need for access to proper air conditioning and HVAC services. Many of the areas in the Pacific Northwest that experienced record-breaking temperatures did not have adequate air conditioning access. Seattle, one of the city’s that broke heat records, is ranked as only having 44% of homes with air conditioning, which is significantly lower than the 91% of homes in the United States with primary air conditioning.
As a multi-unit commercial plumbing and HVAC specialist, we pride ourselves on installing quality air conditioning and HVAC services. A large building with multiple units heats up fast, and air conditioning is essential to keep these buildings cool and safe. We’ve worked on many projects to install the proper HVAC and air conditioning systems from the ground up or replaced aging systems. We view air conditioning and HVAC systems as an essential component of a building, and we’re not the only ones. There are significant health and safety benefits that come from air conditioning and HVAC systems. Here are a few:
- Reduced humidity. High humidity creates a damp environment which is bad for a building. Buildings with high humidity suffer water damage over time. High humidity also increases dust mites and mold and can lead to heatstroke and dehydration.
- Improved air quality. A quality HVAC and air conditioning system doesn’t just keep a building cool. It also helps to filter the air of dirt, pollutants, dust, and allergens. High-quality air filters are an essential part of an HVAC system to help remove contaminants from the air.
- Reduced insects and parasites. Houseflies, mosquitoes, ants, termites, and other pests love a warm, humid environment. Unfortunately, these critters can be annoying, dangerous to your health, and lead to building damage—cool environments with circulating air help keep these creatures away.
- Reduced odors, fumes, and mold. The best part of a quality HVAC and air conditioning system is that it circulates the air. This helps reduce poor air quality, leading to unpleasant odors, fumes, and mold growth.
These are just a few of the benefits of air conditioning and HVAC systems. As a leader in constructing multi-unit commercial buildings, we know how essential these systems are for large buildings that heat up fast. We work hard to ensure that each project we work on has a quality system in place for the health and safety of all occupants. Temperatures may keep rising, but we’ll do our best to ensure that the projects we work on stay nice and cool.
