One of our core values is education. We support education in many ways here at UMC, Inc., most notably through our apprenticeship program. But we also like to support our new employees who are pursuing their educational goals while working. For example, one of our most recent hires, Bryatt Stoker, is just starting his education path at Utah Valley University while working part-time here at UMC, Inc.
Bryatt joined our team earlier this year as part of the estimating department. He works nearly 30 hours a week while pursuing his studies at Utah Valley University in business management. When Bryatt joined our team in Jan 2022, he had only returned from serving a service mission for his church for the past two years in Finland. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do but knew that he wanted to do something in construction. His father works in construction, and Bryatt had studied construction management in high school while working part-time installing AV systems, so applying at UMC, Inc. was a perfect fit.
When he applied to UMC, Inc. Bryatt wasn’t’ sure what to expect. He knew that the company had an excellent reputation for treating employees fairly. He was committed to finding a job that helped support his educational goals and helped prepare him for the workforce. He found what he was looking for with our team. In the estimating department, Bryatt works to help track records, draw forecast revenue projections, and develop systems to improve efficiency and client relationships. It’s big picture work for UMC, Inc. that helps us plan out our future goals and projects.
Another aspect of his work that Bryatt is proud of is being part of the revenue forecast team. This project is new for us at UMC, Inc., but we believe it will help us better manage our resources and projects going forward. We believe that this project will allow us to track how we are doing as a company and helps us to put the tools and processes in place to achieve our goals. It’s a perfect fit for Bryatt, who is in a stage of life where he is learning, preparing, and setting goals for his future.
Bryatt is so grateful to be a part of the UMC, Inc. team. He knew he was in the right place when he saw how willingly everyone at the company upholds and lives the company values. That commitment to our values impresses Bryatt, as does the company’s support of his educational goals. Even though he works every morning until 2 in the afternoon and all-day Fridays, Bryatt knows that everyone is supportive of his schooling schedule and academic needs. He appreciates the support and flexibility when he needs it. When he finishes his studies at UVU, Bryatt is hopeful to continue at UMC, Inc. and maybe become a full estimator someday. He knows that our company will support his educational and career goals because education is so important to us!
