Workplace safety is a huge concern in our industry. There are many hazards, dangerous pieces of equipment, and accidents just waiting to happen on the job site. As a plumbing and HVAC firm, we know that safety is a huge concern for our team and company.
Nearly 20% of worker deaths in the US are in the construction industry. That’s a total of 1 in 5 workplace deaths, and the construction industry has the fourth-highest rate of injury.
As a company, we value safety above all else. Our employees mean everything to us, and we do everything we can to keep them safe. Four of the biggest risks to construction workers come from falls, being struck by an object, electrocution, and being caught in or between objects. These four types of scenarios are known as construction’s ‘fatal four .’ They account for nearly 60% of all construction-related deaths.
So, what do we do to mitigate accidents and deaths? For us, we work hard to create a culture of safety and good habits. We want safety to be at the top of everyone’s mind when they are on the job site so that each of us adapts our daily practices to be the safest. Using principles from the Theory of Constraints, our team identifies hazards and safety concerns before getting to the job site. Then together, we work to employ safety measures to keep our partners and team members safe.
Our safety measures don’t just extend to our employees but to each of our partners on the job site. We employ a safety system to keep the job site free of unnecessary hazards, clear of debris, and require all necessary safety equipment and PPE. In addition, our team focuses on regular safety training and education for each project we undertake. For example, this past year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked hard with our partners to mitigate the risk of spread through additional safety measures, including masks, social distancing and increased sanitization.
We know that our industry can be challenging and that accidents and deaths do occur. That’s not something we would ever want for any of our employees or construction partners. That’s why we work so hard to develop safety first training and safe workplace practices.
We are proud of the culture of safety and caution we have built that starts with each team member. Together, we work to keep one another safe, keep the job site safe and secure, and deliver quality work for our clients.
